Scoot bogging and dying

Scoot bogging and dying

Soooooooooooooo...

Scoot dies if I just goose the throttle. Less than a quarter throttle, prolly like an 8th or 16th.

Idle circuit? I blew out the jets and passageways to no avail. She revs out if I go higher on the throttle. Carb rebuild?
Yup, I'm worried.

explain goose, this term is not in my technical vocabulary. :D

poke the tip of the idle jet with a small wire. I've found bits in it that even after blowing out with air and carb cleaner did not clear it. It was only under magnification that i discovered a small bit.
When in doubt, C4.

Does sound like a clogged jet of some sort.

You might want to check the midrange mixture screw as well. I do this differently than most. I unscrew it way out (like three turns out). Peg the throttle from idle. Then I turn in the screw a quarter turn, peg the throttle again. If it hits cleanly, I keep going in a quarter turn.

When I get a little hesitation off of idle, I back the screw out a bit, like an eighth turn, and try it again. When it revs cleanly, I know it's mixed well, and it's at the leanest that this will happen.

Right lean, left rich. (Just saw that, because I was second-guessing myself about which way to turn the screw. I hate it when I do that!)

This is the mixture screw on the back of the carb, right?
Can you explain exactly what the screw does? I was trying to figure it out last time I rebuilt the carb.

How does screwing it in make the mix leaner? It looked to me like if it you screw it in, it blocks air flow --that is, makes the mix richer, not leaner. I'm sure I'm wrong, I just don't know why.

The answer: I don't know. It must be where the air and fuel mix in some sort of pre-chamber, where it goes somewhere else to be mixed more, or go out the vortex. Or just the fuel is being mixed here. Probably the latter.

Ask somebody else about float height too. Or why the sky is blue. I wouldn't make a very good dad, would I?

On the other hand, a scientist who can explain it probably wouldn't be able to be practical

My primitive mind can't process complex molecular structures, etc.

My diode board just went out on my BMW. I understand enough to know that it needs to be replaced.

Oh yes, it's the mixture screw on the back of the carb.
